4/7 -- We did soak in the Hot Springs yesterday.  They were very relaxing.  Robocop and I left Hot Springs this morning.  This was a nice town.  He immediately got

ahead.  The trail was mostly up today (it usually is after we leave a town).  Our goal was 11 miles, but Robocop and Diamond decided to push ahead another 4 miles and tent.  I got to Spring Mountain Shelter exausted only to find it empty.  The shelter was in such bad shape that I decided to tent nearby.  This will be my first night completely alone on the trail.  Tomorrow-- 15 miles and Jerry's Cabin Shelter.

4/8 -- I'm feeling exhausted! !  I started out planning to do 15 miles today.  The first 4  went fine, but the ups and a rain storm got to me and I only did 8.6.  I read in the Shelter Log that Robocop and Diamond did 20 miles out of  Hot Springs.  I don't think I like going that far.  Four of us at the Laurel Mountain Shelter: myself, The Tortoise, Sunshine, Elf, and Gaseous.

4/9 -- The day started out lousy.  A lot of "ups" and threatening weather.  However, the weather got better and we came across some neat open areas and forest road

walking.  Did 13 miles and spent the night at the Flint Mountain Shelter with Tejas, Tennessee Walker, and Mango.  Hope to do big miles tomorrow  so that I can go to Erwin on Monday.

4/10 -- Did 13 miles today.  Not as much as I would have liked to but it was ok.  I can't wait to get to Erwin.  I really don't like this stretch.  Too many ups.  No rain today but they're calling for it tomorrow.  If  I can do 16 miles tomorrow, I can get into Erwin midday on Monday.

4/11 -- Only did a grueling 13 miles today, so it looks like I won't get to Erwin until tomorrow

evening.  Went over Big Bald,  and got some great pictures.  This has been a tough week mentally.  I've hiked alone everyday and this is the 3rd night that I am completely alone in the wilderness.  This section has not been fun.  I hope my R&R in Erwin helps me out!  As of today I've hiked 327 miles.  673 to go!

4/12 -- Made it to Erwin but discovered that I missed seeing my wife, Nancy by 4 hours.  I'm really bummed.  Stayed at Uncle Johnnys Hostel.  Will probably get back on the trail tomorrow. I'm really sad.
