Important Notice Regarding Classic AT Distance Calculator

Please be advised that the Classic Appalachian Trail Distance Calculator will no longer be updated as of January 1, 2007. The reason for this decision is that I have been updating this version of the app since 1999 and the database version of this app since 2000. There are about 250 'points' that have to be updated each year since the AT distance changes each year. So I have to update 250 flat files, which can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months depending on if I'm working or not. The database version of this app takes only a day or 2 to update. I just update 1 file and upload it to the database. Since the apps look identical to the end user, it was really senseless to keep maintaining both versions.

Believe it or not, there are about 150 web sites that link to the Classic AT Distance Calculator. So I am giving more than ample notice to please change your links to point to:

If someone else wants to take over the maintaining of the Classic AT Distance Calculator, please let me know. I will probably maintain the database version until I complete my section hiking of the AT. I have 1400 miles down, about 800 to go. I will still show both versions of the app. However, I will have a disclaimer that the Classic version is no longer being updated.

Any questions, please use the Feedback Form. Thanks.
