Family Reunion will take shape:
2008 Calabrese Family Reunion Finally Pulled Off! Well, technically. It was just Sherry, Ron and myself at the Cozy Restaurant in Thurmont, MD. But we got together this year. We had a nice meal and talked about some really neat things. We decided that next year, we would either meet in NJ near Ron's sister Carrie's house or in Baltimore at a nice restaurant in Little Italy.
It took us all year to get this one worked out but here it is: The 2008 Calabrese Family Reunion will be held on Saturday, September 27th, 2008 at 6:00PM EDT at the Cozy Restaurant in Thurmont, MD. This is an ACYE restaurant (all you can eat). If your name is Calabrese (or you are directly related to one) please come by. The cost will be $16.00 per person. Hope to see alot of Calabrese's there. The second annual Calabrese Family Reunion was held Sunday, August 5th, 2007 between 12 noon and 4PM at Hannah More County Park in Reisterstown, MD. This year's reunion was organized by Ron and Sherry Calabrese of Owings Mills, MD. We had 13 participants this year. Besides Ron and Sherry, my son Andrew Calabrese and I attended. From California my cousin Adie Calabrese along with her children Jade, Gabe and Jules along with a friend attended. And from New Jersey mycousin Carrie along with her husband and children Josh and Jake attended.
We met at Ron's house in Owings Mills at around 11AM, then proceeded to Hannah More Park where we dropped off the kids. Ron, Adie and I then went to get chicken, crabs and fruit. We returned around 12ish. Carrie and her family arrived around 1ish. She brought yummy desert items.
We talked alot about growing up and going to Rochester, NY to visit our aunt, uncles and grandparents. We remoniced about this and that as well as talked about what we have been up to for the past 40 years.
We concluded that the oldest living Calabrese in our family at this point is James Calabrese, Ron, Carrie and Adie's father. He is 77 and living in FL. He has some medical problems right now. We talked about the possibility of having the next family reunion either in FL with him this winter or in CA next year at Adie's house. Hopefully, one of these places will become a next reunion meeting place.
So Andrew and I had a great time and enjoyed meeting both new and existing family members. Next year, we'll bring some games for some competitions.

The 2007 Calabrese Family Reunion will be held Sunday, August 5th, from 12 noon until 4PM at Hannah More County Park, 12035 Reisterstown RD, Baltimore, MD 21136. As long as your last name (or maiden name) is Calabrese, or you are related to one, or you are a very close friend to one and you bring a dish of food, you are invited! For more information, please use the feedback form on this site. The first of hopefully many Calabrese Family Reunions was held Sunday, July 10, 2006 at Prince William Forest Park between 12 noon and 3PM. Participants were Ron and Sherry Calabrese, their dog Luigi, Mike and Nancy Calabrese and Amanda Green. I had hoped that more people would show up, but this was a good start.
We had barbque from Red, Hot and Blue that was either Beef or Pork pulled. Very good! We also had Popeye's Chicken, biscuits, Cajon Rice, Salad and Cole Slaw. Everything was fantastic. The weather was partly sunny and right around 80 degrees. Perfect picnic weather.
What amazed me was that there were hardly any other picnic'ers around. One couple stopped in for awhile and ate their lunch and soon took off. So we had the whole place to ourselves. We talked alot about family, business, politics and all sorts of stuff. We then took a short hike on one of the closeby trails afterwards.
I'm glad that this first attempt at a Family Reunion went off OK. Next year, we plan to hold this event at Oregon Ridge Park near Baltimore, MD and hope to get more Calabrese's there then. You can Click Here for some pictures from this event. OK, after months of 'Behind the Scenes' discussions, we will have the first of what I hope to be an annual Calabrese Family Reunion. It will be held at the Prince William Forest Park off of US95 exit 150 between Triangle and Dumfries, VA. We're still deciding who brings what but the time and date are on.
So, if your last name is Calabrese or you are directly related to one, please contact me for more information regarding this event. If you know anyone else named Calabrese, please tell them about this event as well. I will post more information as it becomes available. Last Saturday Nancy and had the pleasure of having dinner with my cousin Ron Calabrese and his wife Sherry at Mealeys Restaurant in New Market, MD. Ron and I had not seen each other since some time in the 1960's. Ron had spotted my website and made contact with me last summer and the planning for the dinner had begun. We had a great time and spent the evening talking about various relatives and discussing a possible Calabrese Family Reunion between May and June, 2006 at a pavillion at a yet unnamed park in Maryland. Hopefully, we can pull this off and get our families knowing their relatives again.
It looks like the Family Reunion Blog is now ready. I plan to
utilize this blog to chart the progress of establishing a Calabrese
Family Reunion. I am meeting with my cousin Ron Calabrese on October
29th and hope to discuss this with him then. I also plan to talk to my
sister Terry about this. Maybe next year we can plan something small scale and see what happens. |
